HISTORY

In 1956, the Philippine Armed Forces through the Office of General Alfonso Arellano, commanding General of Fort Bonifacio authorized the construction of settlements for enlisted men serving in the armed forces who were based in Fort Bonifacio. Geographically, East Rembo lies at the heart of three barrios namely: West Rembo, Comembo and Pembo. These settlements were named after the special units of the Armed Forces of the geographical location within or around the Fort.

East Rembo was a self-sustaining community, according to those who have been living in the barrio since its establishment. The military administration of the Fort did not provide any assistance to the barrio. The families cooperated and coordinated to build the spirit of bayanihan in the community. The military administration of the barrio was from 1956 onwards and in the latter years when then, President Ferdinand E. Marcos issued Presidential Proclamation 2425 and implemented in 1986 by then President Corazon C. Aquino granting land titles to its occupants. The barrios geographical-political boundary was turned over to the civilian administration of the Municipality of Makati.

On May 17, 1982, the first Barangay Election was held and Jose Alamis was installed as the Barangay's first elected Barangay Captain. During his term, the barrio celebrated its feast day every October in honor of Our Lady of Fatima, then its patron Saint. In the succeeding years, the said fiesta celebration was moved in the month of May creating confusion to the very religious community until a decree from the Archbishop of Manila Cardinal Jaime Sin was issued on September 1992, revising the boundaries of the Parish of Mater Dolorosa and declaring the venerable lady of Sorrows as its Patron Saint and finally confirming the Feast Day of East Rembo every 15th day of September. The Barangay Council of East Rembo on its part adopted and approved Resolution No. 07-95 last February 10, 1995, resolving the Feast Day celebration every 15th day of September or the Sunday after the 15th day of September of every year.

Presently, the Barangay has its own Parish church, 3-storey modern Barangay Hall, 2 newly renovated elementary schools, covered court, health center, livelihood center, children's park, cemented roads, sufficient potable water supply and stable drainage system far from the past military administration.
